Legends Diagnoses
Legend first attended daycare when he was 2 months old. He didn’t start crawling until he was 7 months. Wasn’t walking until after he turned 1 year. He has two sisters. Valerie and Mia. With being older, they were teaching him things, helping him, and speaking to him like anyone else would. It wasn’t until Legend turned 2 years that I noticed he was different. He wasn’t speaking or even trying to say words. He wouldn’t try to go potty. He would grab you by the hand and point to what he wanted. For along time he was just mumbling words.
He has a love for cars. He’d dump all his cars out and line them up in the living room. He didn’t like to play with others, he would stand back, watch, and mind his own business. I asked his dad one day do you think he’s okay? He’s off to himself, doesn’t talk, and it’s getting hard. He looked at me and said, “I don’t know.”
My next thought was to reach out to friends and family who I knew that had a child on the spectrum. They told me places I could look up to reach out and get help. So I then started researching everything I needed to know. Did you know some of the most genius people in the world are on the spectrum?
In January 2022 I was able to get Legend an appointment to be evaluated. He was evaluated from two different therapists.
One was for how he reacted to certain things. If he interacted with toys and playing with other children. Also if he could respond, or speak to someone.
The second was behavior. How he acted while we weren’t around. If he would still act the same. Or if he would have a nervous break down.
After reviewing all elavuations. I had to be okay with him being diagnosed. And that were going to be okay! He just needs a little more attention, more patience, and security. He’s just a little different.
I was able to help and find more resources from other moms, parents, friends who had no idea where to look.
Legend is now 4 years old. Entered Pre-K. And is growing and speaking like no other! He just needed a little more TLC (tender loving care).
Our goal as a foundation is just to give parents the security. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
